App Fever

We are now traveling along the Santa Fe trail.  Traveling in luxury in a fully equipped RV it hardly can be compared to the challenges of the early settlers.  We have paved roads, climate control, shock absorbers and headlights.  Not to mention our "covered wagon" has a full kitchen, bathroom and bedroom with electric lights and hot water.  I am very blessed to have these conveniences  and am grateful  for the bravery and selflessness of those who traveled the trail way back when to set the bar for the ultimate road trip.

One of the greatest amenities that I use every day is my I-phone.  I just got it in August and have barely scratched the surface of its capabilities.  Of course I text and check my email but now I have discovered the app store.

On a daily basis I am using the map app, of course, and the weather app loaded with the cities on our route. I use the camera all the time - it is just so easy to send a quick photo to friends and family and update Facebook status.  I use the Facebook app to check on my circle. I use the NPR app to listen to the news when here is no other outlet.

I have downloaded two new apps for the trip:  Gas Buddy so we can find the best gas prices on the road (really can make a difference with a 70 gallon tank) and Elevation (which shows your location on a map) I love this as I alway wanted an altimeter to hike with.  I know there are probably a million cool apps that I could use but this is a good start.

When we are overnighting in a location like Wal Mart or a rest stop we are "dry" camping. No hook up to anything.  So we got a nifty little unit called a mi-fi hot spot.  Now all you techies out there don't roll your eyes - I know you all about it - but this is new to us.  We bought a little gizmo and prepaid for a month of data and can get internet anywhere there is cell phone service.  Hence I am able to blog from all kind of obscure locations - even while we are moving on the road!
All this techno stuff has exhausted the boys!
